Profile of H. E. Mr. Rodney Perera

H. E. Mr. Rodney Perera is the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium and the European Union with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Luxembourg since August 2014. He has been a member of the Sri Lankan Foreign Service since 1988. He has served previously in as Second Secretary in Japan, First Secretary to the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, New York and Acting High Commissioner in Kenya.

Ambassador Perera was the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Italy from 2003 to 2007, with concurrent accreditation as Ambassador to Albania, Greece, Cyprus, Malta and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP). He has also served as Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Norway from 2009 to 2012.

He has served as Director General/ Public Communications and Spokesperson and later as Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has previously served as Director, Political Affairs (East Asia, Middle East & Africa), Acting Director General, Political Affairs (Europe & Americas) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Perera holds a Bachelor's Degree of Business Administration from the University of Toledo, Ohio, USA and a Masters Degree in International Relations from the Columbia University, New York.

Ambassador Perera has held many professional positions including as the Chairperson of the Asia Group of the UN Agencies in Rome (2005-2006), President of the Sri Lankan Foreign Service (Diplomats) Association (2007-2009) and the Dean of the Asia Group of Ambassadors in Oslo in 2011.

Ambassador Perera has also delivered many lectures and public addresses at Institutions in Sri Lanka, Italy, Greece and Norway. He received a distinguished award "Grande Ufficiale-Ordine Della Stella Della Solidarieta" (Grand Officer of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity-highest Italian civilian honor), bestowed by the President of the Italian Republic in May 2007.
