Ms. Grace Asirwatham
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium and the European Union
Ms. Asirwatham is a member of Sri Lanka’s Foreign Service (SLFS) since 1988. She has held the following appointments;
2017 – 2019 State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
2016 – 2017 Additional Secretary (Economic Affairs and Trade), Ministry of Foreign Affairs
2011 – 2015 Deputy Director General (rank of UN Asst. Secretary General) of the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) at The Hague
2008 – 2011 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the OPCW in The Hague
2006 – 2008 Director General, South Asia & SAARC Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
2003 – 2006 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal
2000 – 2003 Director, Economic Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1998 – 2000 Consul General of Sri Lanka in Bonn, Germany
1994 – 1998 Deputy Director, South Asia and SAARC Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Ms. Asirwatham holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka and a Masters Degree in International Relations from the University of Colombo.
She is married and has 2 children.
