A multi religious observance was held at the Embassy to invoke blessings on the President and the country to mark the first anniversary of the President's inauguration in office. Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic religious dignitaries conducted the multi religious observance, which was preceded by the playing of the National Anthem and the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. Thereafter, Ambassador addressed the gathering and referred to the significant contribution made by President Sirisena to strengthen democracy, rule of law and good governance and to reduce the excessive powers of the Executive President. Reference was also made to steps taken to develop the country economically and in this context referred to the Economic Summit in Colombo held under the guidance of the Hon. Prime Minister. Reference was also made to HE the President's pardoning of his would be assassin as a significant act in contributing to reconciliation.
