1. Application

2. Certifying required documents
Copies of all documents required for the application need to be certified by the Embassy. Applicants must bring the originals when visiting the Embassy to obtain certification.
3. Submitting the application
Applicants could submit the completed application to the Embassy for transmission to the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka. Thereafter, applicants could track the progress of their application on the online system from the following link;

4. Approval of application
If the application is approved the Citizenship Division of the Department of Immigration will contact the applicant directly by email or letter and indicate by which date the applicable fee should be paid. All payments are made directly to the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka.
5. Dual Citizenship Award Ceremony
At present Dual Citizenship certificates are awarded in Colombo only. If successful applicants are unable to receive certificates in Colombo, they can nominate a person to receive same on their behalf by informing the Department of Immigration in writing. (Nominations forms will be received via email or contact the immigration for further information)
6. Visiting Sri Lanka after obtaining Dual Citizenship
If you travel to Sri Lanka after obtaining the Dual Citizenship using your Belgium/Luxembourg Passport, you should provide a copy of the Dual Citizenship Certificate with your Belgium/Luxembourg passport at the Immigration counter at Colombo Airport in order to enter Sri Lanka without visa.
Alternatively, you could obtain a separate Sri Lanka Passport. However, you should ensure that the Embassy makes an endorsement in the Passport stating that ”HOLDER IS A DUAL CITIZEN”. If the applicant already has a Sri Lanka Passport, they should obtain from the Embassy an endorsement in the passport stating that they are Dual Citizens. The original Dual Citizenship Certificate should be provided when visiting the Embassy for endorsement.
