Mr E Rodney M Perera assumes duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka Brussels

The Ambassador Designate to the Kingdom of Belgium, Mr E Rodney M Perera assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels on Monday 18th August 2014. The assumption of duties was marked by a formal event held at the Embassy including the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, singing of the National Anthem and the observation of one minute of  silence remembering those in the armed forces who sacrificed their lives for the country  which was then followed by blessings from all four main religions led by Venerable M Gnanissara, the chief judicial monk of Jetavana Vihara in France, Venerable Porathota Premarathana from Sri Lanka, Reverend Father Roy Clarence, Imam Dr Mohomed Ahlileh and a Hindu pundit.

Prior to his appointment as the Ambassador to Belgium, Mr Perera served as the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs. During his 26 year career as a diplomat in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service, he has held various bilateral and multilateral posts, both in the Sri Lankan missions overseas and in the Ministry of External Affairs.

After assuming duties, the ambassador in his address emphasised the importance of the embassy working as a team to further the interests of Sri Lanka especially at this current juncture where the country is facing challenges in the international arena.

Mr Perera will be concurrently accredited to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and to the European Union.
